UEL wins 'Highly commended' at the Environmental Archant awards

The University of East London with the help of the Sustainability Research Institute are very proud to receive this ‘Highly commended’ award within the ‘Best Environmental University/College of the year’ category which was organised by Archant London Environmental Awards 2008 on 7th November 2008 which took place in the Radisson SAS Portman Hotel London.

The ‘Best Environmental University/College of the year’ was just one category of 10 in the Archant awards ranging from ‘Environmental Business of the Year’ to ‘Best Recycling Project of the year’. UEL were up against 4 other Finalists of university’s and colleges in the above category competing for first place, the winner being City University.

It was an excellent day with key speakers such as Allen Jones MBE and Guest host, explorer and international environment campaigner Lewis Gordon Pugh; both highlighting ‘the current issues we face as Londoners and how important it is to reduce carbon emissions to protect our planet’.

Archant London is a dynamic business; they are the 6th largest regional publisher in the country. Archant London publishes 39 weekly newspapers across the capital and north Kent ranging from the ‘Kilburn Times’ to the ‘Hackney Gazette’.

UEL were also sponsors of Archant London Award new annual competition. We are very pleased with this environmental achievement and we will endeavour to push the boundaries to promote UEL’s environmental ambitions.
