UEL Sports Scholarships Scheme
The Student Athlete Scholarship Scheme is one of the most attractive in the UK, and is complimented by our flexible academic policy for elite athletes. Our campus proximity to the Olympic Park in Stratford also makes UEL a fantastic proposition for prospective student athletes and UEL is becoming a first choice for many students performing at the highest level.
Our current sports scholars include GB rowers, basketball players, athletes and judo players, many of whom train full time and study part time. Our academic flexibility enables athletes to choose from a range of options that enable them to balance academics with their sporting ambitions. and BUCS sports. Individuals competing in the sport of Athletics may also be eligible for our ASICS Sports Scholarships.
The scholarships are particularly attractive for athletes within our Focus Sports (Athletics, Basketball, Amateur Boxing, Judo, Rowing, Tennis, Swimming, Volleyball), though we do offer support to all athletes from the full spectrum of Olympic sports.
Scholarships are open to all Home/EU students. International fee-paying student should check out our International Sports Scholarships. Applicants should be competing at a national or international level, and agree to the following contractual conditions of the scholarship:
- Compete for UEL in BUCS competitions
- Commit to at least 10 hours of specified ambassadorial activity on behalf of UEL
- Maintain and improve their current performance level (as described in the application)
Students not adhering to the contractual details of their scholarship will have their award cancelled at the discretion of the High Performance Sport Manager. In the event of injury or illness, scholars will have their award reviewed and support allocated based on immediate needs at the discretion of the High Performance Sport Manager.
Successful applicants will receive a range of support based on their sporting needs and performance level. Support includes:
- Gym membership in SportsDock
- Strength and Conditioning support
- Access to a range of sports science support including nutrition, psychology, physiology, biomechanics and performance analysis
- Lifestyle Support and access to our various flexible study options
- Facility access
- A bursary ranging from £500 to £3000 (for full senior internationals) per annum
- Physiotherapy and Sports Injury advice and support
- Partial fee waivers for postgraduate students
Eligible individuals should apply for a sports scholarship as soon as they have received an offer of a place on an academic course at UEL. The first round of applications for September 2012 starters will close on Friday 13th July. The allocation of scholarships beyond this date will be subject to sufficient capacity/funding. Applications for Semester B starters will open in September. The scholarship funding budget is limited. Applicants are not guaranteed an award even if they fulfill the criteria. Preferences will be given to Gold level/Highest performance level applicants athletes in our Focus Sports.
Students need to reapply each year. There is no guarantee that the award will continue each year.
