Types of Scholarships

Types of SASS Award and Performance Criteria

There are four levels of support depending on specific sports and athletic/coaching/officiating ability, called Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum.

Bronze Scholarship

Criteria

  • Includes athletes, coaches and officials (Sport England recognised sports only)
  • Minimum Athletic achievement (any of the below)
    • Junior National qualifier/competitor
    • Junior National League club standard (regular squad member)
  • Minimum Coach achievement
    • Level 3 coach
    • Any sports (as long as UEL sports club available/planned)
    • Coaching County/Regional level
  • Minimum Official achievement
    • Level 3 sports official
  • Students need to reapply each year. There is no guarantee of the award continuing each year.

Support

  • Athlete support
  • Scholarship up to £1000.00 maximum pa and/or part fee waiver (for post graduate and international scholarship students only).

Silver Scholarship

Criteria

  • Focus sport athletes only
  • Athletic achievement
    • Junior International representation (ie, GB u20, u23)
    • Senior National qualifier/competitor
    • Junior National medalist
    • Senior National club squad member
  • Students need to reapply each year. There is no guarantee of the award continuing each year.

Support

  • Athlete support
  • Scholarship up to £2000.00 maximum pa and/or part fee waiver (for post graduate and international scholarship students only).

Gold Scholarship

Criteria

  • Focus Sport athletes only
  • Athletic achievement
    • Senior International representation
  • Students need to reapply each year. There is no guarantee of the award continuing each year.

Support

  • Athlete support
  • Scholarship up to £3000.00 maximum pa and/or part/full fee waiver (for post graduate and international scholarship students only).

Platinum Scholarship

Criteria

  • Athletes or Coaches. All sports (Sport England recognised)
  • Athletic achievement
    • Not defined, but awards panel make decision taking into account how the athlete/coach will benefit/represent the UEL (ie, competing in world class competition, marketing exposure, fundraising, high class coaching experience).
  • Students need to reapply each year. There is no guarantee of the award continuing each year.

Support

  • Athlete support
  • Combination of a bursary payment and/or part/full fee waiver (for post graduate and international scholarship students only).
