Great result for Women's tennis

Thursday 14 February 2013

The team were as follows Mellissa- at number one, Emily (in her debut for UEL!) - at number two,  Charlie- at number three and Emily- at number four. Playing on the indoor courts at the Connaught club, UEL played one double and three singles. This was due to essex only bringing three girls to the match, therefore forefeiting two matchs!

Emily and Charlie fought hard in their doubles game but narrowly lost to the strong Essex team.  Meanwhile Emily (the new girl all the way from America) was winning her first set 6-4, until the Essex player fought back and narrowly pipped Emily in the final set.Charlie then went on to play a singles match and also narrowly lost. However, Melissa brought the match back to drawing by beating her opponent an impressive 6-0, 6-1! As the sides were tied at 6 all, sudden death was needed!

Sudden death is when two singles are played (first to 10 points) then if there is still a draw doubles (first to 10 points) Emily and Mellissa took on the challenge. Melissa again beat her opponent but Emily just missed out! Whoever won this 10 point game would be going into the quarter finals. With the entire UEL women's and men's teams watching and cheering on, Mellissa and Emily they both smashed Essex 2nd and brought home a victory!!!
