Learning curve for Women's Football

Monday 29 October 2012

Lead striker of UEL's women's football team

The team had to make many changes to last week’s team which ultimately set UEL back from the off. UEL looked sluggish from the start of the game and never really got going, with Middlesex scoring in the first few minutes of the game. A big loss to the team was when central defender Lauren L picked up an injury but was forced to play out the rest of the first half due to the lack of substitutions. Midfielder Chloe Hearn was forced to drop back into defence to try and stop Middlesex's strong attacking force which seemed to get the better of UEL's defence every time. Keeper Emma Marlow had to make a large amount of saves to try and keep UEL in the game alongside some good attacking play from Lauren Naughton and Thembie Mnkandla.

UEL continued to be put under pressure for the majority of the 2nd half and after a couple more Middlesex goals UEL looked dead and buried, however, the team kept fighting with good play from Zee Intziful, Arva Roberts and Chloe McInerney in Midfield. Showing that UEL still had team spirit, fight until the end. Although this was a big defeat for the team, Captain Marlow is confident that the team has shown enough team cohesion at training and in the previous game to put this defeat behind them. UEL look forward to the next game against St Mary’s in two weeks’ time taking only positives from this loss.
