Canterbury continued to dominate the opening 20 minutes then the UEL boys moved up a gear. Drew Jones constantly gave the Canterbury defence all sorts of problems with his pace and trickery. Canterbury was given a taste of their own medicine when Stefan Nielsen was awarded a free kick in a similar position to the free kick Canterbury got their goal from. He smashed his free kick, hit the Canterbury wall the ball falling to Drew Jones to blast home from ten yards making it 1-1 at the break.
Second half was a completely different story. UEL had Canterbury camped in their own half of the field throughout the whole of the second phase, with them failing to get in any position to test keeper Ali Wood. Stefan Nielsen caused problems up front all game and managed to notch two goals to give UEL a 3-1 healthy lead. Substitute Marcus Miller who replaced Right Back Marley Splinder, showed his qualities by beating three Canterbury players to open up a scoring chance for himself and was awarded a dubious penalty because of a last ditch tackle from the Canterbury defender. A penalty that nobody appealed for. He stepped up himself and buried it in the far right hand corner to make it 4-1 to the home side. Captain Craig Heskey constantly told his players do not rest there and to keep hunting for another and full back Jon Braaten did not disappoint. Braaten and Jones worked very well down the left hand side, Jones played Braaten down the flank he cut inside and from a tight angle, he smashed his shot across the keeper into the far corner to round off the scoring. After a shaky start the quality shined through on a very horrible and wet afternoon.
