Halloween treat for Men's Football 1sts

Monday 29 October 2012

UEL men’s football.

UEL didn’t allow their opponents to settle and quickly got what they deserved for their possession and control. The first goal came when Captain Dave Shovlin played a chipped pass, which was controlled by pacey forward Aaron Sommers who finished well to put the hosts ahead. Within minutes the lead was doubled with some quick thinking from left winger Drew Jones. Jones took a quick throw that caught out the lacklustre Brunel defensive, finding Sherwin Stanley, who depite intense pressure flicked on the ball for Sommers to net his second within the first 15 minutes.

The game didn’t pick up for Brunel who found themselves with an uphill task after conceding a third five minutes later, this time the provider turning goal scorer when Drew Jones was quickest to react in the box. The mountain got even higher for Brunel as a clumsy free kick was given away on the edge of their box, leaving playmaker Ashley Watson to dispatch and leave UEL with a comfortable 4-0 lead at the break.

They say football is a game of two halves and this was certainly the case in this local derby. An amazing first half from UEL was nearly undone by a bad second half. The first sign of a lifeline for Brunel was when UEL's goalkeeper was neatly lobbed. The second followed 10 minutes later in a borderline offside call but the flag remained down. UEL's keeper, who battled through the game with a thumb injury sustained in the warm up, could only watch despairingly as Brunel slotted a third home.UEL managed to cling onto victory and elimate their London rivals at the first hurdle.
