SportsDock hosts first day of BUCS Indoor Cricket

Tuesday 23 October 2012

UEL students participating in indoor cricket in UEL's SportsDock.

The decision was looking like a bad one as Royal Holloway were on 50 for no loss in five overs. The UEL skipper, Haroon Qadoos then decided to bowl a dream over, taking an “all bowled” hat-trick. This put Royal Holloway on the back foot, they eventually were all out for 82 in the last over, Haroon taking his fourth wicket and Sam Foster and Ali Wood contributing with two very good run outs.

Ali Wood and Haroon Qadoos opened the innings and started relatively well, before Ali was out bowled, this bought Scott Silver to the crease who was run out for single figures, at this stage the run rate was good, with the score on 50 for 2 inside 5 overs, Usman Sahar and and Fraser Watson also departed with single figures. UEL required 14 to win inside 3 overs, Sam Foster (25 not out) and Haroon Qadoos (35*) saw UEL home with more than 2 overs to spare.

UEL CC had a 2 hour wait before their second game, which was against a very strong Westminster University team. Having loss the toss this time, Westminster invited UEL to bat first. Both Westminster opening bowlers bowled beautifully, with five of the UEL batters contributing single figures. However fresh from his innings from the first match, Sam Foster helped UEL from 40 for 5 to a respectable 72 all out, with a great knock of 43.

UEL knew they needed to be at their best, to stand any chance of victory, a wicket from Haroon Qadoos’ first ball was that dream start. Haroon followed this up with a maiden. Westminster University looked in control at 24 for 1 after 3 overs, then some magical fielding with 3 superb run outs and a near perfect over from man of the match Sam Foster (taking 2 wickets), saw Westminster from 24 for 1 to 35 all out.

UEL are joint top of the BUCS League with 2 wins out of 2 games.
