Womens team beat top of the table in league clash

Women’s Team beat top of the table in league clash

Written By Emma Marlow

The UEL Women’s Football Team travelled to Shenley to face University College London (UCL) after coming off the back of a heavy defeat to Canterbury.  With the UEL Girls in good spirits they took to the field knowing that UCL would be confident being top of the table and UEL sitting at the bottom.

The game began with a high intensity and the ball being used well at either end of the pitch. Half way through the first half UEL student Chloe Hearn hammered the ball into the back of the net to put us 1-0 up and looking comfortable. The first half ended with UEL leading 1-0 after some fantastic defending, in particular Erica Holland and Lauren Lucas who made some great challenges around the box and some saves made by captain Emma Marlow.

The 2nd half proved to be a tough half with UCL determined to break down University of East London’s strong defence. Their determination was unsuccessful and UEL left with a great 1-0 against top of the league opponents.

Next Week the team takes on Kings College London in the first round of the cup and UEL hope to leave for the Christmas break with two wins under their belts.

Goal Scorer: Chloe Hearn
