University of East London 3rd football team (UEL 3rd) stumbled out of the British Universities and Colleges Sport’s cup (BUCS), despite a promising display.
UEL 3rd followed a recent 7-1 league defeat by losing 4-2 in the BUCS cup at Colchester. Within half hour, UEL 3rd went 2-0 down from a set piece and a long range effort at 20 yards out. UEL 3rd made mistakes from set pieces, allowing the University of Essex 4th (Essex 4th) to take control of the game.
UEL 3rd remained up beat in the second half, and a change of formation and a fantastic strike by Alex Bocking forced a good save from a nervous Essex 4th goalkeeper. Asa Hauser levelled the score with a powerful header, putting UEL 3rd back into the game at 2-2.
Essex 4th were left rocking and it looked that UEL 3rd were going to take control. UEL 3rd couldn’t capitalize on a good run of play, firing a series of shots only to stray off target. A goal mouth scrabble put Essex 3-2 up after the ball bounced into UEL 3rd’s.
By the 80th minute UEL 3rd had fallen 4-2 behind against the run of play despite a spirited display in the second half. UEL 3rd can hope to gain on this performance despite the defeat as they welcome City University London 2nd in their first home game of the season.
