Sporting Success

Recently our Gaelic Football mens team won their respective national title in Birmingham, and our Cricket team won the regional indoor cricket tournament held at Essex County Cricket Club. Our 2 mens football teams are at the top of their respective leagues with our mens first team scoring over 20 goals and only conceding 3. A strong athletics team will go to the upcoming BUCS Indoor athletics event, with our 'World Class' athlete Jeffrey Lawal Balagun expected to bring back gold to UEL. Other clubs have equally been successful, and we expect to honour this achievement by our students at our upcoming UELSports awards being held at West Ham Utd FC on Friday April 30th. Tickets are now on sale.

Our boxing club goes from strength to strength. Having formed a link with the West Ham Amateur Boys Club, our club boasts over 20 active members (most who are complete novices), and have high ambitions to host a boxing show on campus. Plans are being discussed to have a sparring show at Docklands campus during the Mayfest event on May 5th.

Last year UEL finished 127th in the British University sports tournament (BUCS) out of 142 teams. This year we expect to dramatically improve on this result, and year on year make gradual progress to ensure we boast the highest ranking out of all the London HEI within 5 years.

If you feel you can add value to the development and the progress of our sports clubs, please contact Katy Hollands, UELSports Development Officer. We will value your time and your ideas.
