It was men against boys when the University of East London’s (UEL) second rugby team were taught a lesson by the Canterbury Christ Church University’s (CCCU) second rugby team.

On a cold Wednesday evening UEL’s  2nd Rugby Team, met the CCCU’s 2nds,  at Memorial Park in West Ham. After just four minutes CCCU won their first try, but failed to convert. UEL lost almost every scrum and line-out in the firsthalf, leading to more tries and conversions for CCCU. UEL’s captain, Chris Vickers, seemed to have trouble keeping his men in the right positions, making it easier for the CCCU’s players to push forward. CCCU led 31-0 at half time.

In the second-half, CCCU’s players didn’t take their foot of the accelerator and within two minutes , CCCU scored another five points. CCCU captain Sam O’hara had told his players to be more aggressive. 10 minutes into the second-half, UEL players Dwain McGuinness and Pedro Pereira were both seriously injured, which only helped CCCU to gain greater domination. UEL came close to scoring 10 minutes before the end. UEL put in their final efforts in a bid to gain their first try and almost succeeded. Yet, CCCU kept scoring and when the referee blew the whistle, the final score was a humiliating 0-69.
