Team UEL, comprising over 40 runners, participated in the Newham Classic 10k on Sunday 18th. Starting and finishing at West Ham Park, the 10k course entered the Olympic park for 1.2 km, giving the runners a close up view of the Olympic stadium. Team UEL was made up of staff and students from all schools and services, with noteable performances from everyone concerned. First over the line from Team UEL (39th overall) was David Holland (student) in a time of 39:27, closely followed by John Fry (Staff), Rohan Alexander (Staff) and Emmanuel Umeh (student).
Over 12 UEL physiotherapy students provided post race massage services to Team UEL runners and many additional runners from the event. Coordinated by Liz Nicholls (senior lecturer), the students performed admirably for a prolonged period of time, as the queues started to grow for some 'post race' relief of aching muscles. This event was a great lead in for the students who are also providing Physiotherapy support to the London Marathon runners this coming Sunday.
Plans are underway to enter a Team UEL in this years London Triathlon, the Great London Swim and the Half Marathan Run to the Beat event. Contact David Cosford for more details.
