UEL International Sport Ambassador Scheme
University of East London has recently been voted the Best in London for Sport in the International Student Barometer (Autumn 2012). Through the International Sport Ambassador Scheme, we reward our budding sporting students by offering a valuable package of benefits.
UEL International Sports Ambassadors will receive a package of professional support including:
- SportsDock gold membership (giving unlimited use of the fitness facilities and exercise classes)
- Personal off peak usage of courts (badminton, basketball, volleyball)
- Full International Sport Ambassador clothing and sports kit (Jacket, Track Suit, Training Top, Fleece, Shorts, Hat and Sports Holdall)
- Athlete conditioning services (access to sports massage and fitness programmes)
- Sports club membership (unlimited membership of the UEL sports clubs and access to all their training and coaching)
- Sports awards ticket at the UELSports annual ceremony
The programme is aimed at students who regularly participate or coach/officiate at a recreational club or school/college level (ie, active participant) in the following sports:
- American Football
- Archery
- Athletics
- Badminton
- Basketball
- Boxing
- Cricket
- Fencing
- Football
- Handball
- Hockey
- Judo
- Netball
- Rowing
- Rugby
- Squash
- Swimming
- Table Tennis
- Taekwondo
- Tennis
- Triathlon
- Volleyball
Becoming an International Sport Ambassador is a competitive process and places are limited. Places are awarded on a competitive basis and applicants must have been participating in their chosen sport at a competitive level for a minimum period of 3 years.
Applicants must be classed as International Students for fee purposes.
Successful candidates will receive an award for one full academic year, and will be ineligible to apply again.
Successful applicants will be expected to have a positive impact on UEL sport through a combination of the following:-
- Train and compete for their specific sports club
- Have an active involvement in the promotion of sport at UEL
- Attend International Sport Ambassador workshops
- Represent UEL as an ambassador at specific events such as Open Days and Awards ceremonies.
How to Apply
Complete the UEL International Sport Ambassador Scheme application form and return it to sportambassadors@uel.ac.uk.
You will receive a response from the UELSports office within 10 days, giving you an indication of your application success.
If successful, you will be expected to apply for your academic course (see notes) and gain formal acceptance before you are able to become an International Sport Ambassador.
Notes
* All applicants will be required to fulfil the standard academic entry requirements for International students and pay the academic fees for their course.
* Applications are processed on a rolling basis, and there is a limited number of places available.
