Tennis

Introduction

UEL Tennis offers a full range of tennis for everyone, from performance players seeking to represent their country, to sessions for children, young people and recreational players. We offer weekly training sessions for staff and students close to both the Stratford and Docklands Campuses and have a men’s and women’s team who compete in BUCS league competitions.

The programme is headed up by our LTA funded Tennis Co-ordinator, Tony Brown. Tony is a qualified tennis coach and his versatile coaching style brings a level of enjoyment and variation to sessions for all abilities. His extensive experience in coaching children through to adult tennis sessions, enables him to cater for beginners and the elite sports scholarship students.

We are currently linking with WimX, an east London based tennis academy to help provide a performance tennis package for aspiring professionals. Our attractive sport scholarship programme provides financial and sports science support and academic flexibility to aspiring and accomplished tennis players, making UEL one of the best places to study and play tennis.

Our tennis teams play in weekly BUCS league and cup fixtures, and students also have the opportunity to play in the annual BUCS individual Championships. There are also regular staff and student tournaments run on campus. Home games are played at the conveniently located West Ham Park.

There are also opportunities for individuals from outside the university to get involved, and we are currently setting up mini tennis sessions for local young people in the newly opened SportsDock
