Introduction

Newham & UEL Swim Club

In 2011 Newham Swim Club joined with UEL to create Newham UEL Swim Club.  The club offers UEL students greater swimming opportunities than ever before, under the guidance of head coach Giuseppe Caporaso.  Swimmers can represent the university in long course and short course British University (BUCS) competitions as well as representing the club in other local and national competitions.

Newham & UEL Swim Club caters for competitive swimmers of all levels.  Members train with the squad that is most suited to their ability.  The squads include the following:

• Performance Newham Squad (Youth and Senior)– must be willing to train at performance level  (6-8 sessions/week including morning sessions), and willing to represent the club at key competitions.  The main aims for this squad are competitive swimming, physical development, and to represent UEL and Newham in swimming competitions as county regional and national level
• League Group- Aimed at those who don't want to compete regularly but who wish to represent UEL in BUCS competitions.
• Masters Group – Group for 18+ year olds who want to swim for fitness, social and master-level competitions

UEL offers a competitive membership fee which includes club fee, squad fees and ASA membership.

Swimming lessons

Head Coach: Dr Giuseppe Caporaso

Giuseppe is a UKCC Level 3 Swimming Coach and has a PhD in Sport Science and Exercise Physiology from University of Milan.  He is in the final year of his BASES sports scientist supervised experience.  Guiseppe’s experience included coaching at regional squads and helping swimmers reach national and junior international level back in his native Italy as well as coaching the top squad at Ealing Swimming Club alongside Dave Heatcock.  During his time at Ealing, Giuseppe has coached swimmers that have reached World Champions semi-finals, Commonwealth Games Finals and Commonwealth Youth Games medallists.
