We also offer outreach activity tailored to primary children. We believe that creating links with university from a young age encourages children to aspire to higher education in the future. We work with the Cass School of Education and Communities to ensure we can provide a great experience for our primary school visitors. We can offer the following activities for primary schools:
Paired reading mentoring
UEL students mentor primary school students in years 5 and 6 to help with the literacy framework. This also provides school pupils with a higher education role model.
Campus visits
We host on-campus visits for classes in year 5 and 6. These sessions provide an engaging and interactive taste of our University. We work with the Cass School of Education and Communities to link our trainee teachers into the campus sessions. Our campus treasure hunts are very popular with primary school students, enabling them to tour the University in a fun way.
Transition workshops
We offer workshops to assist the transition process from year 6 primary level to year 7 secondary level. These workshops focus on managing relationships and the differences between primary and secondary settings.
Special project involvement
Students can take part in live research projects at the University through our research teams and PhD students.
Previous projects include PASS (Podiatry and School Science), which focuses on studying the importance of foot health, and a PhD research-led project in sport and exercise for children.
