UEL advocates that authors wishing to make their work Open Access deposit in roar.
Sometimes a publishers' policy will prevent authors from complying with their funding mandate in this way. For example although funders want papers to be made available after 6 months some publishers insist on upto 18 month embargo periods before authours can self archive papers in roar. In these cases paid or Gold Open Access options can enable an author to comply. A central Open Access publishing fund has not yet been established at UEL therefore authors may wish to consider the following:
Manuscripts of papers should still be sent to us at roar. We will not make them available until after the publisher’s embargo period has passed.
Universities UK and the Research Information Network have just produced a useful guide on paying for Open Access publication charges, including advice for authors, universities, publishers, and funding bodies.
