Rising East 2 featured traders from Queen’s Market, Upton Park, protesting against plans to redevelop the market site. Even after the withdrawal of Asda from the scheme, they remain concerned about corporate-council proposals, and sent the following report to Rising East.
‘Having helped force the withdrawal of Asda from the redevelopment scheme, Queen’s Market Traders have overwhelmingly decided to send a message to Newham’s Mayor and to Anthony Glossop, chairman of St Modwen plc, that they are no longer willing to be a pawn pushed around by huge vested interests. They want a full and equal say in a modern management arrangement in the market without the involvement of private developers.’

Unsolicited ideas are welcome, but please talk to the editor (a.calcutt@uel.ac.uk) before putting a lot of effort into writing them up.
