Anthony Lam is a leading photo-documentarist who has been exploring the impact of globalisation on local lives in a series of major projects and exhibitions over the last 20 years. Much of his work has focussed on the Bangladeshi community of East London, and he has also worked in China, Hong Kong and North America.
Ports of Call, a recent exhibition from which images used in this issue of Rising East are drawn, examines the shifting frontiers of national identity in relation to British immigration policy, through an exploration of ‘border landscapes’ in East London and Essex.
The full exhibition will be on display at the University of East London.
Docklands Campus as part of the Mayfest. Later this year, Anthony will be artist-in-residence at the online gallery of the London East Research Institute.
We are very grateful to Anthony Lam for permission to use his work in this issue of Rising East.
