UEL is rated the top modern university in London for research by the most recent Research Assessment Exercise (RAE). Our strong performance in the RAE confirmed the reputation of our academic Schools for high-quality research.

78% of UEL’s submission to the RAE was judged to be of at least internationally recognised quality, with a proportion rated world-leading, in terms of originality, significance and rigour.

As we have developed as a university, we have supported our existing research strengths and established growth in new research areas. UEL is already highly regarded for innovative research and scholarship accross a wide range of fields, including Arts and Humanities, Social and Health Sciences, Law and Creative Industries. We are in an excellent position to further build on our research-base and expand capacity in other areas of expertise.

To this end, we look forward to developing a strong and diverse submmission for the impending 2014 Research Excellence Framework (REF), and more importantly continuing to undertake research that will bring meaningful impact both in our local communities and more widely. We also re-affirm our commitment to integrating our research into our teaching and learning and the benefit of this to our students both undergraduate and postgraduate.
