REF Advisory Group (RAG)

RAG was established in November 2010 to play a key consultation role in advising and shaping the development of UEL's REF submission. Membership was revised in autumn 2011, as preparations began to gather pace, to expressly include all UoA Coordinators.

Terms of Reference

RAG as a strategic advisory group will:

• Advise the Deputy Vice Chancellor on any emerging implications of REF proposals, criteria and submission guidelines
• Ensure that effective and appropriate institutional action is undertaken to support research productivity, grant capture and research student progression in line with REF proposals.
• Assist in peer review and assessment of external assessors' reports and advise on final selection of UoAs and submittable staff, outputs and relevant evidence of impact for submission to REF
• Advise on and evaluate impact statements and case studies
• Advise the Deputy Vice Chancellor on activity elsewhere in the sector in preparation for REF
• Advise the Deputy Vice Chancellor on equal opportunity issues in respect of institutional preparations for REF

It is likely that smaller working groups might be convened from time to time by RAG to undertake specialist work (e.g., vetting draft submissions etc). This work will involve members listed above working with others (e.g. UoA leads). These include:

Prior to the establishment of RAG, responsibility for REF was held by Research and Knowledge Exchange Committee, minutes of which are made available via the Quality Assurance and Enhancement website.
