All staff on academic contracts (excluding hourly-paid lecturers) could apply. Applications from potential REF-returnable early career researchers were especially welcome.

The Sabbatical Leave scheme supports:

  • Enhancing further an individual’s research outputs in preparation for possible submission in the REF.
  • Providing the opportunity to apply for external funding streams to support research and knowledge transfer activity.
  • Encouraging, developing and supporting mutually beneficial relationships with external partners (say with business and industry).

Prospective applicants should discuss their ideas, proposals and intended outcomes with their Dean of School before submitting a formal application.
