
Under the rubric of the politics of care, the 2011 conference theme draws together three life-sustaining and affirming concepts – knowledges, love and solidarity. These concepts are usually dealt with separately in dominant policy and practice discourses. We invite participants to critically engage with their interrelationships. By co-implicating and entangling the mind and the heart, emotions and politics, the individual and the collective, and the public and the private, the conference theme opens a space for rethinking, reclaiming and reconnecting these terms and concepts. Thus it intentionally and necessarily opens to a multitude of understandings, readings and interpretations. We welcome debate around the theme’s affordances for reconceptualising ethics, inclusion and activism in early childhood education.
