Postgraduate Research Experience Survey (PRES)

We need your help for PRES 2013! Please tell us what you think about postgraduate research student life at the University of East London.

Complete the survey now via http://www.survey.bris.ac.uk/uel/pres2013

You will need your UEL student ID number omitting the initial letter U (e.g. the student ID U1234567 will have the username 1234567) and the generic password you will have now received to both your UEL and personal email inbox.

UEL is really keen to make sure you have the best possible experience during your time as a postgraduate student. To do this, we need to know what you think works well and what we could do better. PRES will ask you for your views on the quality of a range of areas including:

  • your views on supervisory support;
  • the school and University facilities available to support your research;
  • how you feel about the professional and researcher development offered to you;
  • your experiences of the Annual Review process.

PRES launches on Tuesday 5 March 2013 and is a vital chance for UEL to find out about your experience as a postgraduate student. PRES is the only national survey of postgraduate research and so the only way for us to compare how we are doing against the national average and to make changes that will improve postgraduate students’ experience in the future.

The more students that take part the better UEL can do that.

The survey will take around 15 minutes to complete. Your responses are confidential. All your feedback will be used anonymously and never reported in a way which could identify you. Your UEL student ID will be used to access the survey as your username. A password for the survey will be emailed to you separately.

If you would like to know more please email pres2013@uel.ac.uk.

Data Protection and Anonymity

Your UEL student ID is used solely for access to the survey and entry into the prize draws. All individual identifiers will be completely erased when the survey closes on Thursday 16 May 2013 and all hard copy responses of the survey securely shredded.

All data collected in this survey will be held securely. Results are confidential to UEL, though UEL may choose to share or publish aggregated, anonymous results. All participating institutions have agreed not to identify any individuals when reporting their results internally or externally, and to use their best efforts to ensure that no individuals can be identified by implication. The full PRES dataset will be available to the Higher Education Academy in order to conduct national level analysis, and all results will be reported in an aggregated and anonymised form.

PRES 2013 Prize Draw

We are keen that as many of our postgraduate research students as possible respond to the survey, so we are again running a Prize Draw. The first prize is £500 towards the cost of attending a UK academic research conference (including costs for travel and accommodation). You will also have the chance to win a £50 Amazon voucher, one of which will be allocated to a participant from each of UEL’s academic schools (including the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust).

To complete the survey, you have to enter your Student ID number, and doing so will automatically enter you into the Prize Draw. Full terms and conditions of the Prize Draw follow below. Your ID number will only be used to enable access to the survey, for entry into the Prize Draw and to allow us to collate aggregate demographic data.

Accessing the Survey

You will have received an email by Tuesday 5 March 2013 which encloses details of your username and password to access the survey online. We will also be emailing reminder messages including username and password details as the survey period passes.

Prize Draw Terms & Conditions

  1. This Prize Draw is operated by and is the sole responsibility of the University of East London (UEL).

No cash or other alternative will be offered and the prizes are not transferable.
  11. Eight £50 Amazon vouchers will be allocated to one participant respondent from each of UEL’s academic schools, including the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust. No cash or other alternative will be offered and the prizes are not transferable.
  12. The draw will take place within two weeks of the closing date. The winning student ID numbers will be chosen at random from all complete survey responses received by the closing date. All decisions are final and no correspondence will be entered into.
  13. The winners will be contacted via contact information held by UEL against the student ID numbers. (It is the student’s responsibility to ensure that their details as held by UEL are correct; these can be checked via UEL Direct). The winners will be contacted within two weeks of the draw date.
  14. A period of one month will be allowed after notification to the contact details held by UEL for the winner(s) to claim their prize. If a prize is unclaimed after reasonable efforts have been made to contact the winner(s) then the prize will be disposed of as the organisers see fit without any liability to the winner(s) for having done so.
