Quality Assurance and Enhancement

Recent developments at UEL in response to student feedback from surveys – October 2010

Academic Referencing

A standardised approach to referencing is being implemented at UEL, beginning with first year undergraduate students in 2010-11.   Implementation for all other students will take place in 2011-12.

Libraries

Docklands Library and Trading floor has been refurbished to improve cooling and noise control; six teaching areas on the ground floor have been enclosed to provide better and quieter teaching accommodation.

Social Space

There is now an increased and enhanced provision of social space for students, for example redecorated Atrium, new seating in university square and along the dockside, new social space at Aqua East, new seating in Stratford, refurbished and updated bars and cafeterias.

Sports

Take a look at the new programme providing improved access to sports and sporting activity – see http://www.uel.ac.uk/sports

New sports centre - Work on our brand new sports centre has now commenced and the new centre is due to open in 2012. See http://www.uel.ac.uk/2012/office/training.htm

Volunteering

A volunteering module has been introduced to enable students to obtain academic credit for volunteering activity. You can access the volunteering module ED2500 from your second year onwards and must be currently volunteering in any area. The module is University Wide so all students can access the module as an optional module or as an additional seventh module.

Employability

There’s a new online resource, ‘Get That Job’, offers access to vital practical know-how such as writing a great CV, gaining useful experience, networking and how to answer common interview questions.  See www.uelconnect.org.uk/employability

Student Liaison Officers

Two newly appointed Student Liaison Officers are here to work with students and staff, to provide support and clarity to help resolve issues.  For details of drop in sessions for your School, see  www.uel.ac.uk/ltse/slo
