Extended Psychology Degree (Level 0)

Course Description | Course Content | Entry Qualifications | Admissions

Course Description

This course is for students who perhaps have never had a member of their family go to university or would like to have a more relaxed and gentler exposure to academic life and study. Students who complete the Level 0 programme successfully are guaranteed a place on the BSc (Hons) degree programme in Psychology at UEL.

Completion of the four-year extended psychology degree will give students the Graduate Basis for Chartered membership (GBC) with the British Psychological Society (BPS) if they obtain a 2:2 or above in their final degree classification, which is essential if students wish to go on to practise as a Psychologist.

Course Content

This modular programme introduces students to a number of approaches to psychology through a lecture programme presenting an introduction to some of the theoretical perspectives of psychology, with a focus on the relevance of these frameworks to the everyday life of the student (PY0001). Knowledge of the historical and theoretical development of these frameworks is further consolidated through discussion of their contemporary applications in the second semester (PY0004). Psychology benchmarks such as critical thinking and research are also addressed in the programme through exploring key studies in psychology (PY0002), and the development of practical skills necessary for designing, conducting and reporting psychological research (PY0005). The programme also develops the basic study and personal skills required of students completing a psychology degree via two self-study skills modules (PY0003 and PY0006).
