Brief biography

Ruth Wacholder is a clinical tutor for the Doctoral Degree in Clinical Psychology in the School of Psychology, University of East London. She completed her first degree at University of Manchester (BA Psychology) before moving to Oxford to undertake her clinical psychology training (BPS Diploma, Oxford Training Course in Clinical Psychology). Ruth took up her first permanent full-time post at Buckinghamshire Mental Health NHS Trust (split between Learning Disability and Adult Mental Health), moving to work solely in LD services, and subsequently in CAMHS in south Buckinghamshire and then to a specialist team for children and adolescents with neurodevelopmental disabilities in London. Her areas of clinical interest include working with children with LD and ASD, using systemic approaches and improving services for parents with LD.

Areas of Interest/Summary of Expertise

Ruth’s areas of clinical interest include working with children and adolescents with LD and ASD, and their families, using systemic approaches and improving services for parents with LD and support to Pakistani mothers of children with LD. She has also had a research interest in coping among carers of people with spinal cord injury.
