The School of Psychology has an excellent reputation for teaching psychology. It is a large, varied and exciting department with a considerable record of accomplishment in teaching, research and consultancy. In the most recent assessment by the government’s Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education of all UK university departments, the UEL School of Psychology was awarded one of the highest scores in the country for its teaching of psychology. Students find the department a friendly and helpful place to study: As well as the usual student support systems, we have a well resourced help desk to help deal with students’ immediate needs and a highly regarded student-mentoring scheme. As well as our BSc (Hons) programmes, the School has numerous PhD students and offers highly regarded postgraduate programmes in all the main areas of professional psychology, clinical, educational, occupational, counselling & guidance. Very few psychology departments in the UK offer programmes in all these areas and this range of postgraduate activities enriches the educational environment for all those who choose to study at the University of East London. Psychology may be studied as a single honours degree (BSc (Hons) in Psychology, BSc (Hons) Forensic Psychology, BSc (Hons) Developmental Psychology, BSc (Hons) Critical Psychology or as a major or minor part of a combined honours degree. For more information regarding combined degrees offered by UEL, please visit the Combined Honours home page.
All undergraduate modules are taught by experts in their respective areas. In addition to our full-time and part-time staff, we have several honorary visiting professors and fellows and we run an extensive programme of invited talks. We are a lively and thriving academic community.
