Module 1: Evidence-based Coaching Theory and Practice

This core module offers students the opportunity to develop a broad and informed perspective of the major theoretical models such as humanistic, behavioural and cognitive behavioural coaching. Students will critically assess and discuss existing empirical research and develop an understanding of the current state of the evidence for coaching within an international context.

Module 2: Leadership and Organisational Coaching

This module develops an understanding of executive coaching within organisational settings. Students will engage with major theoretical models of leadership and critically discuss themes such as organisational design, strategy and change. Importantly, students will consider how coaching can be used within organisations for individual and organisational development.

Module 3: Psychological Perspective of the Self and Others

This module offers students an opportunity to critically discuss and analyse notions of the “self” and “other”. Students will engage with the use of psychological instruments as a route to understanding personality. Students will also develop an understanding of themselves as agents of change within coaching relationships.

Module 4: Coaching and Mentoring in Education

This module considers the role of coaching within educational settings. There will be opportunity to critically compare and contrast the roles of coaching and mentoring within education. The module focuses on the use of coaching to develop cultures for learning. Students will also develop their skills in the application of positive psychological approaches such as Appreciative Coaching.

Module 5: Health-based Coaching

This module will help students to develop an informed perspective on the growing use of coaching within the broader health sector. Students will consider the impact of coaching on stress, wellbeing and other health-related issues. Students will develop their skills in the application of advanced coaching techniques such as Motivational Interviewing.

Modules 6 and 7: Qualitative and Quantitative Research Methods and Dissertation

These two research modules can only be taken as part of the MSc in Coaching/Coaching Psychology. Students will develop qualitative and quantitative research skills in order to undertake a research project based on an area of their own interest.
