Ten reasons to study psychology at the University of East London

  1. We are a long-established and exciting department — the largest in the UK. We have a considerable record in delivering high-quality programmes and courses, research and consultancy. We run undergraduate and postgraduate programmes accredited by the British Psychological Society, as well as offering postgraduate research studentships. Very few psychology departments in the UK offer the range of programmes that we have and this enriches the educational environment for all who choose to study or work here.
  2. We have many highly qualified members of staff, some of whom are internationally renowned experts in their respective fields.
  3. We have a positive, inclusive and open culture and enjoy teaching our students. With a strong personal tutoring system in place, providing personal as well as academic support, students are not left on their own to struggle. We also have a help desk system for students for dealing with a wide range of routine queries. Students are enthusiastic about the support they receive from staff and find the School of Psychology a friendly and helpful place to study.
  4. We have excellent teaching and research facilities located in a purpose-built block. We have a laboratory suite entirely devoted to undergraduate work as well as specialist laboratory accommodation for research in cognitive psychology, social and developmental psychology and psychophysiology. We also have a virtual reality research facility and extensive computing facilities. Advice and training in computing skills is provided both within the BSc Programme and through university-wide support services.
  5. Our graduates can look forward to excellent careers in commerce, business, industry, social care, education and many other sectors. Examples of recent unusual career paths include employment as the first psychologist for the armed forces and coastguard of a Caribbean country, developing social care structures in Russia and other countries in the former Soviet Union, developing new business practices for companies in various Southeast Asian Countries, and working in areas of conflict towards the harmonisation of organisational culture between peacekeeping forces and charities.
  6. We have a Psychology Society for students that organises social events and careers talks. The society encourages and develops global views of psychology amongst all our students.
  7. Students have specific representation on our school committees. Their views are always heard and acted upon.
  8. We make extensive use of the Internet and e-learning, allowing students easy access to learning resources so they can use their time productively both within the School of Psychology and outside (for example, when visiting home during the course).
  9. If you are applying to take your undergraduate studies or your Graduate Diploma at UEL, we are happy to offer you advice on postgraduate study in the field of psychology.
  10. Our Conversion Course allows non-psychology graduates to gain entry into the profession of psychology in either two or three semesters, depending on your previous studies.
