About Psychology

We are a large and exciting School of Psychology, with a proven track record of high quality in our teaching, research and consultancy. Our staff are well qualified both in teaching and in their own specialisms; some are internationally renowned experts; all are enthusiastic about their work. We offer a wide range of degree courses: undergraduate, postgraduate, professional and research doctorates.

Our Psychology undergraduate degree programmes are accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS); with a 2.2 or above you are eligible for Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC), which is essential if you want to go on to practise as a psychologist. There are two further routes to GBC: the Extended Psychology Degree is a four-year programme and offers a gentler exposure to academic study, or if you already have a degree in another subject you could apply for the MSc Psychology. BSc (Hons) Counselling and BSc (Hons) Counselling and Mentoring. For more information on which subjects are available as part of a major/minor degree, please visit the Combined Honours home page. A distinguishing characteristic of our School is the wide range of postgraduate programmes. (You will need GBC for some of our programmes.) Many of these programmes equip you to practise professionally, because they are accredited by the relevant professional body. BPS-accredited programmes include our Professional doctorates in Clinical Psychology, Counselling Psychology, Educational and Child Psychology, and the MSc in Occupational and Organisational Psychology. We offer professional postgraduate training in Career Guidance (ICG-accredited) and Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP-accredited). We were among the first Schools in the UK to offer postgraduate training in Coaching and in Positive Psychology. Our newest programmes are the Msc in International Humanitarian Psychosocial Consultation by distance learning and the Career Coaching Course.

Teaching and learning are important to us — and to our students! We uphold a tradition of providing a good learning experience. Our students are enthusiastic about the support they receive from staff, and find the School a friendly and helpful place to study.

We are situated at the Stratford campus: the university architecture is a sympathetic blend of listed nineteenth-century and brand new twenty-first–century buildings. Stratford boasts superb transport links, and excellent teaching and research facilities.
