About the programme

  • Offers the opportunity to study Europe through the study of globalisation
  • Understands the changing bases of identity and difference such as nation, class, race, gender, sexuality
  • Requires active learning through use of research projects, portfolios, presentations
  • Is concerned to develop skills needed by professionals who use or carry out social research
  • Can involve studying abroad

Programme structure

At Level One European Studies students take all (Sing Hons) or part (Combined Hons) of the common level one.

At Level two European Studies (Sing Hons) students take the Employability Module, two Core Modules and choose three Modules from a range of Options that includes a University Wide Option

At Level Three Single Hons students take the 40 credit Research and Dissertation module and a European Studies Core Module plus three options, one of which is a University Wide Option.

In four year programmes, there are opportunities to study abroad

Career opportunities

Policy Development Officer in European organisation or organisation working in a European policy context or market. European institutions, pressure groups and political parties, equal opportunities agencies (e.g. CRE and EOC). A higher degree. Employment as a Research Officer. Information Officer. Research/Policy Advisor.

Support

  • All students have a personal tutor who is accessible during two hours per week
  • We provide study skills to help you learn and assist you if you have special learning needs
  • Provide a friendly atmosphere to help you overcome fears and anxieties about higher education
  • UEL staff will provide medical, counselling and financial advice.

Admission

If you are under 21 you will need 2 'A' levels at grade C or above.

Mature students (over 21) will need evidence of prior learning or an access programme pass.

Applicants with the Baccalaureate or expecting to obtain it, and other equivalent qualification e.g. the Matura, should apply using the standard application form and detailing the breakdown of subjects taken and grades obtained, or to be obtained.
