Or first encounter with illustration may very well have been through childrens books; illustrators such as Theodore Geisel [Cat in the Hat], Maurice Sendak, Beatrix Potter or Quentin Blake. Historically the medium is linked to applied visual communication that goes back much further; to political satirists such as Gilray and Daumier or the many artist/political activists of past generations.
Illustration is a pervasive visual tool and increasingly so, in the age of mass production

Students are able to investigate their ideas with an emphasis on Illustration or with combined honours in pathways such as Animation, Graphic Arts or Graphic Design. Students are able to draw upon a substantial knowledge of practice, technical support and theoretical underpinning within the field and school.
In the field we are seeking to encourage students to value the relationship between traditional and new technologies within the context of contemporary practice.
You can view a full guide to the modules you have to study as part of your chosen pathway, along with a full range of option modules available by viewing the Single & Combined Honours Programmes Guide for Illustration
