Why study Facilitating Learning & Development?

The Facilitating Learning and Development programme is specifically designed for Teaching Assistants to further their knowledge and understanding of child development and the factors which impact on behaviour. The programme provides theoretical understanding to underpin practice.

  • You will develop knowledge and understanding of child development.
  • You will learn about teaching and learning.
  • You will learn to analyse practical and theoretical situations, in the context of child development and theories of teaching and learning and synthesise solutions, showing original and creative thought.
  • You will plan, manage and reflect on your own learning and progression in acquiring graduate attributes appropriate for entry to teacher training or other careers in schools.

What career opportunities will I have?

The programmes offer opportunities to gain:

  • knowledge and understanding of child development; teaching and learning; the curriculum in the Foundation Stage, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2:
  • Professional values and practice in terms of equality of opportunity; respect for children and their families and communities; reflection on own practice; working alone and collaboratively; current and relevant legislation;
  • teaching and learning in terms of planning, giving feedback to pupils; monitoring progress; building relationships; managing difficult behaviour; communicating effectively, knowing about groupings; supporting inclusion of all children

Can I study a Combined Honours Programme as a Part-time degree?

All our Combined Honours Programmes can be studied on a Part-time or Full-time basis. As a Part-time student, you will study the same degree programme, but at a slower pace. You will study up to 4 modules per year (instead of 6 as a full-time student). You will find that some subject areas offer evening taught modules to aid flexibility. Some Education modules are available for evening study.

Entry Requirements

240 UCAS tariff points (including two passes at A2 level) plus GCSE English grade C.

How do I apply?

If you wish to study with us full-time from September, you will need to make your application via UCAS (www.ucas.ac.uk).

If you wish to study with us part-time you can obtain an application form from our admissions department study@uel.ac.uk or apply on-line.
