Programme summary for Professional Doctorate Systemic Psychotherapy

About the programme

This professional doctorate is designed to give family psychotherapists the opportunity to continue their professional and academic development and to make an original contribution to knowledge in the field with a research thesis.

Programme structure

The programme comprises a number of core and optional modules, together with a dissertation. Core modules are:

  • Programme Specifications for Beginners
  • Writing your UCAS Programme Profile
  • Research Methods for Beginners
  • Statistics for Social Sciences
  • Dissertation.

Optional modules are:

  • What is a Learning Outcome?
  • How Do I Produce a Skills Matrix?

Career opportunities

The doctorate is aimed at practising family psychotherapists and will enable you to enhance your skills to a high level, presenting you with opportunities for career enhancement and specialisation in areas of specific interest.

Support

Students are allocated a research supervisor and a research adviser, where appropriate. Peer learning and support is encouraged. Research training seminars are tailored around the needs and interests of each learning group.

Admission

Students will have completed an accredited Masters programme in family therapy/systemic psychotherapy, or its equivalent.
