This programme explores the dynamic interlinkages between international development and health inequalities in public health access and provision across low and middle-income country contexts. Improving global health outcomes was prioritized in three of the eight Millennium Development Goals and is critical in setting the post-MDG international development agenda.
This MSc offers you the opportunity to work at the interface between international development and health to understand the causes of health related development deficits, global patterns in health and development outcomes and the roles of the different actors in improving health care provision worldwide.
The MSc provides a critical approach emphasizing building intellectually rigorous practitioner knowledge for the health and development sector of relevance to a wide range of graduates and development practitioners, healthcare professionals and administrators interested in health inequalities in low and middle-income countries, as well as an international constituency of students concerned with global expressions of development and health inclusion and exclusion.
A unique aspect of the programme is that students are encouraged to take up placement opportunities offered via collaborative links with NGOs including in Africa, Asia, Latin America, and beyond which in the past has acted as a springboard for securing future career opportunities at the international development and global health interface.
The programme builds on existing expertise at UEL and includes both core and optional modules from the MSc NGO and Development Management (School of Law and Social Sciences) and from MSc Public Health (Health Sport and Bioscience).
