Partner Pupils from Local Schools Meet Team USA Paralympian
One of Team USA’s leading medal hopes for this summer’s Paralympic Games paid a special visit to the University of East London this week where he met with pupils from our partner schools and colleges.

Sports Partners given opportunity to test the Olympic Stadium at BUCS finals.
As part of our commitment to sports progression in higher education, local sports teachers from our partner schools and colleges were invited to the Olympic test event for the BUCS athletics finals held at the Olympic Stadium this month.
UEL have been chosen as a Champion for Care Leavers
As part of our Quality Mark from Buttle UK indicating our commitment to aiding Care Leavers to enter Higher Education, UEL have been approached and accepted to be a Champion for this mark. This means UEL will share its best practice with other universities wanting to awarded the Buttle Quality Mark. This is a fantastic opportunity for UEL to showcase its dedication and commitment to widening participation activity, especially in the areas to do with enabling care leavers to enter and achieve at higher education.

ECP and UEL Health, Sport and Bioscience Attend Launch of In The Zone with Sir Steve Redgrave
As part of the drive to inspire young people to think about studying sport and health in higher education, ECP and members from the Health Sport and Bioscience School were invited to the official launch of In the Zone where the keynote speaker and ambassador of the project, 5 times Olympic Gold Medallist in Rowing Sir Steven Redgrave, commented on his time rowing in the Royal Docks near UEL.
UEL Staff Governing in our Local School and College Communities
ECP recently hosted two governor forums at Docklands and Stratford. Meeting twice a year, the groups give staff who are serving as governors or trustees in local schools and colleges the opportunity to share experiences and discuss current educational issues.

We are pleased to announce that Buttle UK has awarded its Quality Mark to UEL for a further two years in recognition of our commitment to Care Leavers in higher education.

Over 20 year 3 to 6 children from Christchurch School in Ilford visited the Stratford Campus for an introduction to UEL and a special Arts Taster session this month where they were tasked with marking the 2012 London Olympic Games with clay models

Education and Community Partnerships Hosts Successful Finding out about University Event
Staff members from over 20 external organisations embarked on the Stratford Campus last month for a chance to find out about University. Visitors included those from Newham Careers, East London Skills for Life, Job Centre Plus, TLE Training and East London NHS Trust who all attended the event run by UEL’s Stratford based Information Advice and Guidance (IAG) team.
UEL Raises Aspirations for Gifted and Talented Students in Havering
14 Gifted and Talented Year 7 students from Redden Court School in Harold Wood, Romford, had a unique campus visit to UEL this week. Not only did they take part in a morning full of aspiration raising activities on Higher Education and Careers, but they also brought along their parents to take part in their own workshop designed to bust the myths surrounding student fees and finance.
