UEL Lecturer called to the Palace for 60th Commonwealth anniversary

A University of East London (UEL) academic was one of three people chosen from the Bahamas to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Commonwealth at Buckingham Palace yesterday.
Paulet Brown, a Bahamian national, attended the prestigious reception hosted by Her Majesty the Queen on 28 April with over 200 other people from different Commonwealth countries.
A Senior Lecturer in Early Childhood Studies at UEL’s Cass School of Education in Stratford, Paulet was selected for her contributions to education in the Bahamas, UK and Europe.
The other two Bahamians were Datra Christie, who is representing the young people of the Bahamas and is currently studying in Britain and Sir Arthur Foulkes, who made a significant contribution to the association of the Bahamas within the Commonwealth.
Sir Arthur was the Bahamas High Commissioner to the Court of St. James’s and for several years Dean of the Caribbean diplomatic corps in London.
Recently, Paulet has been commissioned by Paul Farquaharson, High Commissioner for the Commonwealth of the Bahamas, to explore links with universities in the UK and Europe with the College of the Bahamas for future placement possibilities for Bahamian students.
Paulet said: “It’s been an absolute delight and pleasure to meet her Majesty the Queen as the Commonwealth celebrates its 60th anniversary this year.
“It was amazing to meet her, one of those moments where you want to pause and hope that it lasts. It was the longest and shortest five seconds of my life and I’m pleased to be representing the Bahamas on such an important day and especially proud to be a Bahamian.”
