Inspirational student offers grand gesture to children's hospice

Tuesday 8 January 2013

Dwayne Fields

UEL student, Dwayne Fields, has raised £1,000 for a London children’s hospice.

In a kind-hearted gesture just before Christmas, Dwayne handed over a cheque of £1,000 to Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice in north London. As part of his funding raising efforts, Dwayne staged a special charity auction at which UEFA Champions League tickets and free holiday accommodation were up for grabs. The undergraduate student also gave a number of inspirational talks to schools in Enfield and to young people at City of Westminster College.

Dwayne said: "I am delighted to be able to hand over this cheque for £1,000 to Noah's Ark, as it is a cause dear to my heart. I have always been impressed with the skill and kindness with which the hospice deals with the children in its care. I lost a relative to leukaemia, so I know how important the hospice is in offering care and support to those suffering from the illness, as well as to their families and loved ones.”

Dwayne became the first black British man to reach the North Pole in 2010 and is preparing for a solo walk to the South Pole later this year.

Dwayne will be speaking about his North Pole expedition at the Telegraph Adventure Travel Show on Sunday, 27 January.
