Friday 5 October 2012

Elizabeth Soon

Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) fashion design graduate, Elizabeth Soon, has won the first prize in the ‘Call for Talent’ competition organised by the Domus Academy, Milan in partnership with Vogue Talents.

Elizabeth beat over 50 applicants to win a scholarship which covers 70% of the tuition fee to pursue the Master in Fashion Design course at the prestigious Italian academy, regarded as one of the foremost design schools in the world. She was also recognised as Best Graduate from NAFA’s BA (Hons) Fashion Design programme, offered in collaboration with the University of East London.

Her striking creative work was selected, earlier this year, to show at Graduate Fashion Week, where it was noticed by influential media such as Vogue, and The Style Column, which described her collection as having ‘a powerful visual impact’.

Elizabeth said: “I am very excited to win this competition, I never expected to win the top prize at an international competition that attracts talents from around the world. It is an honour to have been selected by a jury that includes a Vogue Italia editor and it is an incredible opportunity for me to study in one of the fashion capitals of the world.”

Catherine Harper, Dean of the School of Arts and Digital Industries at UEL, said: “I am delighted for Elizabeth to have been offered this fantastic opportunity. She clearly has real talent and I have no doubt that studying at the illustrious Domus Academy will provide a huge boost to her career."

"We really value our relationship with the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in Singapore and have had the pleasure of welcoming students from the academy to London. We were all extremely impressed with the students’ drive and ambition.”
