UEL has been shortlisted for the Times Higher Education Awards 2012 in the Outstanding Contribution to Sustainable Development Category.
UEL engages with local stakeholders to experience real-life issues related to local regeneration case studies and recently rescued one of Britain’s rarest insect, the streaked bombardier beetle (Brachinus sclopeta) by constructing a new habitat entitled the Beetle Bump in a last ditch effort to save the species in the UK.
The Beetle Bump now stands as a bold and visual statement of UEL’s commitment to the conservation of regional biodiversity and the innovative ways that it can be incorporated into urban green space within sustainable development.
The award ceremony will take place on Thursday 29th November at the Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane, London.
