Hundreds of places on offer at UEL – Team USA’s Olympic training camp
Fresh from hosting Team USA during a highly successful Olympics, the University of East London is limbering up ahead of the opening of its Clearing Centre tomorrow, allowing A-Level students the chance to come and study at the London 2012 training camp of Olympic Gold Medallists.
Open from 8.00am until 7.30pm on Thursday and Friday, the UEL Clearing Centre will help prospective students, who have not secured a place at university or college, to find a suitable course. With hundreds of places on offer, UEL is expecting an extremely busy period on both Thursday and Friday.
170 phone lines are available in the specially designed Clearing Centre. Last year, UEL received nearly 10,000 calls on A-level results day.
Catherine Downes, Director of Corporate Marketing at UEL, said: “UEL has a lot to offer students, so I would really encourage them to get on the phone tomorrow and speak to a member of our team. While some students might be put off by the Government’s new fees, it is worth remembering that no one will have to pay anything upfront. Going to university is still a good investment, as graduates still earn more over their lifetime and have greater job opportunities.”
Here are some tips UEL is offering students who are seeking a university place:
Don’t panic! There are still hundreds of places available, but you do need to act now
Places are available if students are prepared to be flexible and explore other opportunities
Choose a course– ucas.com or the free Telegraph clearing app hold the most up-to-date information on course availability
Understand the fees, funding and support for your studies that are on offer – university web pages / student finance England
Be prepared – have all of your qualification details to hand
Get on the phone and sell yourself
UEL is hosting an open day on Saturday, 18 August 2012 at both its Stratford and Docklands Campuses between 10.00am and 4.00pm. Applicants will be able to speak to academic members of staff about their course, view the facilities, such as the new £21million SportsDock, receive an offer and accept that offer on the day.
Prospective students who want to apply to UEL should either visit the Clearing Centre at UEL’s Docklands Campus or call 020 8223 3333.
