Stars of Britain’s Got Talent’s ‘United We Stand’ dance group, which includes UEL students among its ranks, descended on UEL’s University Square today (Wednesday, 2 May) to remind everyone why the four infamous BGT judges were wowed by their audition.
The group has been together for 6 years, have even been called the next Diversity, and have pledged to use their £500,000 prize money, if they are successful in the ITV1 talent show to develop a community centre in Stratford.
The performance at UEL is part of a mini-tour the group are doing of Newham which kicked-off on Monday with a performance at the Stratford Centre and has also included performances at a number of Newham borough schools.
Britain’s Got Talent isn’t the first groups big break, earlier this year the dancers reached the final stages of Sky1’s Got to Dance as Unity UK.
Josh Franklin, who is in his third year of his Sports Coaching degree at UEL, said of the group’s dance routines: “They come from all different things that inspire us, a lot of us are from East London so we use that as inspiration, our different backgrounds inspire us, too.”
Naadei Kwashie, who studies urban dance at UEL but is currently taking a break due to appearing on the BBC programme, Move Like Michael Jackson, said: “It was absolutely amazing to appear on Britain’s Got Talent, if we get through I can’t wait to experience it all over again.”
UEL was the first university in the UK to offer a degree course specifically in Urban Dance Practice.
