
The University of East London welcomes Dr Nora Ann Colton as permanent Dean of the Royal Docks Business School.
Dr Colton has a keen interest in international economics, specifically the Middle East and has travelled widely in the area to countries such as Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon and Yemen. She has a book forthcoming on the political economy of Yemen published by Palgrave-McMillan Press.
Previously a Professor of Economics at Drew University in the United States, Dr Colton is also the editor of a book series on Middle Eastern economics. Her current research interests include social inequality and social stratification in the Gulf States.
Highly regarded as an expert in the field, she has spoken widely on issues affecting the Middle East, appearing across a range of international media including France 24 and Al Jazeera.
Dr Colton was instrumental in establishing the Centre for Islamic Banking and Finance at the University of East London.
She said of her appointment: "I am very excited to be appointed the permanent Dean of the Royal Docks Business School. It is a great honour for me to be able to continue to work with the dedicated staff and students who make the University of East London such an excellent institution to work and learn."
