UEL students snap up prizes in top photography competition

Ilford photo competition

Photography students from UEL’s School of Arts and Digital Industries captured the lion’s share of top prizes at a national film competition, ‘Framing the Nation’ this month.

Although the competition, hosted by photography giant Ilford (Harman Technology Ltd), was open to all UK universities, UEL won 3 out of the 6 available prizes, while the University itself was rewarded for its flare for photography, winning the prize for the University with the most eligible entries.

Overall winner in the mono category was Thomas Janusca, taking away the prize of £350 cash, plus a Harman Titan Photography kit for his photograph snapped at the Redgrave Pinsent Rowing Lake in Caversham, Berkshire.

Jan Van De Kaa and Natalia Castaneda Bassi both won runners-up prizes of £100 worth of Harman product. All three are Level one single honours BA photography students.

The winning entries were displayed on the Ilford photo stand at ‘Focus on Imaging’, which took place at the NEC Birmingham at the beginning of March, where the students were awarded their prizes.

Ralph Hall, senior lecturer in photography at UEL, said: “I’m thrilled that the University did so well in a competition run by such an iconic brand, we have some incredibly talented students at UEL as this competition demonstrates, congratulations to them all.”
