Veteran of three Olympic Games and leading contender for this year’s London 2012 Games, Troy Dumais, paid a special visit to UEL last week.
Troy, who represented the United States as a diver in the 2000, 2004 and 2008 Olympic Games, took time out from his busy training schedule to speak to a group of young people at Newham Sixth Form College. He enthralled NewVic students recounting his experiences of competing in three Olympic Games and spoke of how he got into diving in the first place.
As part of his whirlwind visit, Troy also met with sports science students at UEL’s Stratford Campus to speak about the importance of psychological preparation when competing in major sporting events.
Speaking to the students, Troy said: “I can’t wait for the London 2012 Games; I think it’s going to be the best Olympics ever. It will be a great honour to represent the United States in London.”
UEL’s Docklands and Stratford Campuses will be Team USA’s main base for athlete training, performance services, staff and training partner accommodation, catering, media and logistical operations. Approximately 1,000 Team USA athletes and staff will use UEL’s new £21million state of the art SportsDock, which opens on Saturday, 24 March, during the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
