UEL forges ties with Kenyan academic elite

Kenya

UEL has further raised its international profile following a visit by students to the the elite Management University of Africa.

Two Royal Docks Business School students on the Global Scholars Programme, Ardit Ndoka and Mansa Samlafo, travelled to Kenya to help secure a new partnership with the fledgling Nairobi-based institution.

One of the main projects the new partnership was involved in was with the issue of litter and domestic waste in Nairobi. Putting their heads together on the problem, the partnership established a cross-organisational research team to look into solutions to the problem.

The students' week-long visit also included a trip to the Nairobi Aviation College (NAC), where they chaired a guest lecture and conducted talks with Principle manager and Institution owner Peter Manyuru about the possibility of licensing some UEL courses when the college comes online as a full-fledged university.

Mr Manyuru praised the academic and motivational input of the students, asking them to ‘come again and again’.

Ardit and Catherine were also pleased with their progress and experiences, describing their time in the southern hemisphere as empowering and an essential tool for employability skills. They highly encourage other UEL students to take up similar placements.

The visit was facilitated through the support of the Kenyan Commission Secretary for Higher Education, Professor Everett Standa, who forged the initial ties between UEL and the MUA last September.

Dr Nora Colton, Dean of the Royal Docks Business School, said: "The RDBS is very excited to launch this global scholars programme with enterprising students going abroad to share innovative ideas that contribute to our global society."
