UEL has joined an exclusive and very green club, having recently been awarded ISO14001 certification for its environmental management.

ISO14001 is an international standard that provides a framework for organisations to manage and improve their environmental performance. To achieve the standard, UEL has put in place an environmental management system (EMS) which helps to first identify and then strategically minimise environmental impacts at every level of UEL’s operations, ranging from energy consumption to waste management. The system is part of an on-going process of continued evaluation and improvement to ensure a consistent level of quality.

Among only a handful of universities nationwide to be certified to this standard, the award is a significant accolade for the University.

Energy & Environmental Manager Sara Kassam said: “This has required a lot of hard work and cooperation from individuals and teams across UEL and has helped raise awareness about environmental issues. The independent verification of our EMS is an excellent way of demonstrating our commitment to environmental improvement.”
