Leading UK Female entrepreneurs to take centre stage at UEL conference

Ministers from the British and Indonesian governments will join successful entrepreneurs at the University of East London’s largest female entrepreneurship event yet in London this Thursday.

The Centre for Excellence in Women’s Entrepreneurship (CEWE) conference is the latest stage in UEL’s drive towards being Europe’s leading institution for female entrepreneurship by 2020.

Baroness Wilcox from the UK Department for Business, Innovation and Skills and Agus Muharram MSP, the Indonesian minister for Cooperative and Small and Medium Enterprises, head the roster of influential speakers including Carrie Longton, co-founder of Mumsnet; Rebecca Harding, CEO of Delta Economics; Sunny Crouch OBE, inaugural winner of the Docklands Business Person of the Year award; and Wendy Hallett, founder and managing director of Hallett Retail.

The event is packed with opportunities for attendees – from teenage school students to founders of successful companies – to talk to fellow entrepreneurs, develop skills and gain advice on how to take the next step in their business. Throughout the day, female entrepreneurs will be offered individual 1-to-1 sessions with experts in marketing, finance, social media and business growth and given the chance to MOT their business.

The centre is supported by a network of UK business experts to provide a place for enterprise development based at UEL. It offers women entrepreneurs the full toolkit needed to set up and grow a new business, including mentoring, specialist research and invaluable networking opportunities.

Speaking ahead of Thursday’s event, Selena Bolingbroke, UEL Pro Vice-Chancellor said: “We launched our landmark programme for excellence in women’s entrepreneurship 12 months ago in City Hall, and we’re delighted at the response it’s got ever since. With the government recently announcing plans to put women at the heart of economic growth, it’s increasingly clear that releasing the untapped potential of female entrepreneurs can provide a real boost to economic development. But we know it’s hard for new businesses to get started – they need inspiration, but also hard-nosed practical advice. This conference will provide both. We know that CEWE and our network have the experience and expertise to help turn ambitions into reality.”

The CEWE Conference takes place on Thursday, 17 November between 8.45am and 6.00pm at the Honourable Artillery Company, Armoury House, City Road, London, EC1Y 2BQ.
